What the Junior Pro Taghazout Bay is
The Junior Qualifying Series is the entry level of professional surfing. Under-20 surfers compete across a regional season, and the best of them move up towards the Challenger Series and, eventually, the Championship Tour. Taghazout Bay is co-sanctioned, which means the results count for two regions at once: Europe and Africa.
“We are very excited to return to Taghazout Bay,” said Rob Gunning, WSL Europe Tour Manager, in the League's announcement. “It's going to be a great end to the Junior Qualifying Series season for Europe.”
“Taghazout Bay is one of the most exciting stops on the African schedule,” said Luqmaan Bruce, WSL Africa Tour Manager. “The quality of the waves and the cultural experience make this event a real coming-of-age journey for many of Africa's next generation of professional surfers.”
What is at stake
For the European region, this is the fifth and last event of the 2026 season, after Casablanca, Ferrol, Capbreton and Gijón. Each surfer's best three results out of five decide the final ranking. The top two men and top two women qualify for the WSL World Junior Championships, held at Surf City, El Salvador, from 25 to 29 November 2026 — ten days after the Taghazout final.
Going into Morocco, the European rankings are led by Hans Odriozola and Joshua Karbus among the men, Tiara Van Der Huls and Ibone Gomez among the women.
For the African region, Taghazout opens the 2027 season. The 2026 African qualifiers were already decided over three events: Simon Winter, Louise Lepront, Levi Epenetos and Anastasia Venter will represent Africa in El Salvador.
Anchor Point, the wave the contest is built on
Anchor Point is the reason Taghazout is on the world surf map. A right-hand point break that peels along a boulder point at the north end of the village, it works best on a big north-west swell — which is exactly what November brings. It is not a beginner wave, and that is precisely why the League keeps coming back: it rewards surfers who can read a long wall and link sections.
November sits at the start of the Moroccan swell season. The Atlantic lows start lining up in the north-west, and on the right day the point runs for hundreds of metres. A junior heat at Anchor Point is not a beach-break scramble: it is a positioning game, and it shows in the scores.

Coming to watch
Watching is free. The competition is judged from the point, and the slope above it works as a natural grandstand — you walk up from the village and you are there. Bring water, a hat and something to sit on; there is no built seating.
Surf contests run on the ocean's schedule, not the calendar's. The window is 11 to 15 November, and the WSL confirms each morning whether the day is on and when heats start. Check the official sources before you set off:
One practical point most visitors discover too late: while heats are running, the peak at Anchor Point belongs to the competitors. If you came to surf as well as to watch, you will want to know which of the other spots in the bay is working that morning. That is a daily conversation at our breakfast table, not something you can plan from home.
Staying in Taghazout during the contest
We are a surf tour operator based in Taghazout village, five minutes from Anchor Point, running our own operation rather than reselling someone else's. During a competition week that matters: the village fills up, and the people who can still move you around are the ones with their own vans.
| Accommodation | Four addresses in and around Taghazout, from a shared dorm to a private apartment, all within reach of the village on foot. |
| Airport transfers | Agadir Al Massira (AGA) to the village, 45 minutes, in our own vans. |
| Board and wetsuit rental | By the day or by the week, picked up in the village. |
| Surf coaching | Two hours in the water with a coach, groups by real level, transport to the spot of the day — useful the week the point is closed for heats. |
| Coworking | Fast wifi and an ocean view, if you are following the event between calls. |
Competition weeks fill the village earlier than people expect. If you are planning to be in Taghazout in November, book the bed before the swell forecast turns good.
