The duplex

Downstairs is one long room: the sofa at one end, the kitchenette and the table at the other, and a wall of glass onto the balcony in between. Upstairs, a landing, two bedrooms and the bathroom. The staircase is the whole point: one half of the group can go to bed while the other is still talking.

The living room and the kitchenette

A corner sofa, a low table and a wall-mounted television, on marble. The kitchenette behind it is compact but real: a gas hob, an oven, a fridge, a sink and a washing machine. On a week with children, or a month of remote work, that last item matters more than the view. The round table seats four.

The balcony

Glass balustrade, two chairs and a low table, the residence below and the ocean on the horizon. It runs the width of the living room, and it is where the afternoon goes.

The WC downstairs

A separate WC with its own washbasin, beside the kitchenette. Unremarkable until four of you have one surf session to get to, and the only bathroom is upstairs.

Upstairs

The stairs come up onto a landing, and both bedrooms open off it. The first has a king bed, air conditioning and its own balcony, with the ocean past the rooftops. It is the room people book the duplex for.

The twin bedroom

Two single beds, a slatted wooden headboard, and a window onto the hillside behind the residence. It has the desk, the mirror and the full-height wardrobe, which is why it ends up being the room of whoever is working that week.

The bathroom

Slate walls, a wooden vanity, a round mirror, and a bath with a screen over it. One bathroom for both bedrooms, which is the honest trade-off of a two-bedroom apartment. The WC downstairs takes the pressure off it in the morning.

The pools

Both Bay addresses sit inside the same gated residence at Taghazout Bay: gardens, two pools, parking and a guard on the gate. It is quiet in a way the village is not, and it is where guests travelling with children, or with a month ahead of them, tend to end up.

You are not cut off

Everything social still happens at the hostel: surf sessions, excursions, the rooftop, the long tables at dinner. The difference is that you drop in when you feel like it, then go home to your own door.

Transport between the residence and the village runs with the surf sessions. Surf lessons and scooter rental are bookable on top if you would rather come and go on your own schedule.
