Agadir Airport to Taghazout: Transfer Guide

Home › Blog › Agadir Airport to Taghazout: Transfer Guide

The Agadir airport Taghazout transfer is about 45 km of coastal road, roughly an hour behind the wheel. You land at Agadir Al Massira Airport, drive north past the city, and the N1 carries you up the coast to the village. There is no train, no tram and no direct bus that drops you at the door, so your choice comes down to three things: a grand taxi, a rental car, or a transfer you booked before you flew.

This guide covers the distance, the options, and the small decisions that make the difference between a smooth arrival and an hour of hassle at the end of a travel day.

The Agadir airport Taghazout transfer distance, and why the clock is honest

Agadir Al Massira Airport goes by the code AGA. It sits to the southeast of Agadir city, not in Taghazout's direction at all, which is the first thing to understand. You do not drive straight to the village. You drive toward Agadir, skirt the city, then head north up the coast. Taghazout sits a short way north of Agadir itself, which puts the full airport run at roughly 45 km.

Call it an hour, give or take. The road is good and the traffic is usually light outside the city, but we will not pretend to a fixed figure, because the time depends on when you land. Mid-morning is quick. A Friday evening through the edge of Agadir is slower. A late-night arrival with empty roads can be faster than the map suggests.

The airport is busier than many travellers expect. It handled 2,304,045 passengers in 2023, per Wikipedia, which is worth knowing when your flight lands alongside two others and the taxi rank fills quickly.

The options, compared

You have three realistic ways to cover that 45 km. Each works. They suit different kinds of traveller.

  • Grand taxi. The white or cream intercity taxis that run fixed routes and longer distances. A grand taxi can take you the whole way. You agree a price before you get in, and you should, because the meter is not the rule here for intercity runs.
  • Rental car. Sensible if you want to explore the coast on your own clock, drive to the breaks down south, or run errands in Agadir. Less sensible if you are arriving tired and plan to surf and rest for a week, because a parked car is just a cost.
  • Pre-booked transfer. A driver arranged in advance, waiting for you by name, for a price you agreed before you flew.

One thing to clear up, because it trips people up at the rank. The small orange petit taxis you see around Agadir cannot take you. Morocco splits its taxis into two kinds: petit taxis work inside the city and are metered, grand taxis run the longer intercity routes. The airport sits outside the city limits, so petit taxis are not permitted to pick up there. For a longer run to Taghazout, a petit taxi would not be the right vehicle anyway.

Why we lean toward a pre-booked ride

A grand taxi works. Plenty of people arrive that way and have no trouble. But the pre-booked transfer solves the specific problems of arriving somewhere new, in a language you may not speak, at the end of a flight.

You step out of arrivals and your driver is there with your name. No queue. No haggling over the fare while you hold your boardbag and your bags. The price is fixed before you leave home, so there is no surprise at the far end and no sense that the number moved because you look like a tourist. If your flight is delayed, a good operator tracks it and the driver waits.

That last point matters more than it sounds. Negotiating a fare is a skill, and doing it well takes local knowledge and a bit of the language. Doing it badly, tired, at night, with no sense of the going rate, is where arrivals go wrong. Booking ahead takes the whole conversation off the table.

What to expect when you land at Agadir

Agadir Al Massira is a single, manageable terminal. You clear passport control, collect your bags, and walk out into the arrivals hall. There are ATMs and a currency desk, which is worth noting because you will want some dirham in cash for a taxi, for tips, and for the first day before you find a machine in town.

If you booked a transfer, your driver waits in the arrivals hall or just outside, holding a sign. If you are taking a grand taxi, the rank is outside the terminal. Agree the price before you load your bags, not after.

Boards come up often, so it is worth saying: if you are travelling with a boardbag, a grand taxi may or may not take it easily depending on the car and how many of you there are. A pre-booked transfer lets you flag the board when you book, so the right vehicle turns up. If you are still deciding what to bring, our guide on what to pack for a surf trip to Morocco covers the board question and the rest.

Late-night and early-morning flights

A lot of cheap flights into Agadir land late or leave at dawn. This is where planning your ride ahead pays for itself.

Arrive the arrangement before you fly, not after you land. A pre-booked driver waits whatever the hour, so you are not standing at a thinning taxi rank at 1am trying to work out a fair price with the last driver there. The same is true in reverse for an early departure. If you are catching a 6am flight, you want a car confirmed the night before, idling outside at 4am, not a hope that a taxi passes.

For an early departure specifically, this is where the Complimentary Departure Transfer earns its name. On packaged trips it is included from five nights, taking you to Agadir Al Massira Airport or Agadir Bus Station. You book nothing extra and worry about nothing at 4am. The arrival transfer is a separate matter, which brings us to the last section.

Booking your transfer with us

Here is the honest version, because it affects what you book and when.

The arrival transfer is not included in our packages. You arrange your own way from the airport to the village, whether that is a grand taxi, a rental car, or a private transfer you book ahead. If you want us to help arrange the arrival ride, ask when you book and we will sort it for your dates.

The Complimentary Departure Transfer, to Agadir Al Massira Airport or Agadir Bus Station, is included from five nights on packaged trips. That is the ride out, at the end of your stay, with an early-flight-friendly pickup.

A few other things worth knowing before you commit. Stays and packages can be cancelled free of charge up to seven days before arrival. Services booked on their own can be cancelled up to 48 hours before they start. Breakfast is included on direct bookings and on packages, so your first morning is handled. Everything sits under one booking, four addresses and one team, so you are not stitching together separate reservations for the room, the surf and the ride out.

If you are at the stage of locking in dates, our walk-through of how to book your Taghazout surf package takes it step by step, including where the departure transfer fits. Pick your dates, flag your flight times when you book, and we will make sure the ride out is waiting. The ride in is the one thing we ask you to plan, and now you know how.
